Since Kristen is poor she has to stay in Westchester for the holidays tutoring Ripple a 9 year old who wants to be just like Massie. At first Kristen gives up on having a good summer, what could change her mind? Dune, a hot surfer does. He is Ripple's older brother and he a total CLAM (cute, loyal, athletic and middle class). He wasn't rich. Kristen couldn't believe it he was just like her!
So she tries to win his heart but then along comes Skye Hamilton the eighth grade alpha and soon to be ninth grade girl. She is beautiful but rich and she goes to the country club since she is a member. So Kristen doesn't think that Dune would like her since he told Kristen himself that he thought OCDivas were stuck up and too girly. So then Kristen starts to dress more like a tomboy and is completely embarassed because it looks like Dune is beginning to fall for Skye who actually dressed like a girl.
At the end of the book Dune confesses to Kristen that she 'had it all' and that he was crushing on her! But unfortuanately he had to leave to go on tour or something but he would be back in October. He didn't go to Briarwood though, of course his family couldn't afford it. Kristen could only afford going to OCD because she was on scholarship.
I think the ending is really sweet because he comes to her house and takes off this shark tooth necklace that he had worn since he was six and gives it to Kristen. He said it was a memory of him until he came back.
