The Spook's Mistake

As this series nears its end i believe that it gets better. tom is sent to train with Bill Arkwright and he learns about water witches. this book signals a even darker tone for this series with the death of one of bill's dogs, many unnamed civilians and nearly Bill. The fiend pays tom a visit and things get very interesting from there onwards. needless to say, the two dogs were a great add to the series (even though one dies, which is my least fave part) and the....... everything gets better. style, writing, characters. My one complaint is that without the spook (he appears briefly in the end and beggining, in the end he makes a mistake but no spoilers) it seems a bit strange to have the book named after him. but i guess its better than "Tom Wards trip to Bill Arkwright" being the title.

Overall the book has greatly improved upon the previous ones and sets the bar yet again (god, i feel as i am repeating this everytime) and the next book is probably going to be better.

9.5 out of 10. only bad thing that puts it down is that it just isn't perfect. No book is (yet).

My favourite character was Bill because he is old, cool, has two dogs, is very experienced and helps tom a lot and makes the bok more interesting by describing his time as a spooks apprentice.

Also, alice is sent back to Pendle to live with her aunt at the end due to using witchcraft deemed evil by the spook.
